Professor Malcolm Toft has had an illustrious career in the recording industry. He started as a recording engineer in the late ’60’s and was the first engineer employed at the legendary Trident Recording Studios. He was an engineer on The Beatles ‘Hey Jude’ single, David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity Album, James Taylor’s first album, three albums by Tyrannosaurus Rex who later became T-Rex and and many other artists including Rod Stewart, and Joe Cocker.
In 1973 he founded Trident Audio Developments as an offshoot of Trident after he inaugurated design of the legendary Trident A Range console. He went on to design iconic Trident Audio consoles including the Series 80, TSM, Trimix, Series 65 and Series 75. Malcolm sold Trident in 1988 but still continues to design and manufacture high quality professional audio equipment under his own name. In 2009 he was made a visiting professor at Leeds College of Music and in July 2023 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by West London University in recognition of his significant contribution to professional audio.
